We are each decision makers every day of our lives. Our decisions dictate who and what we are and will become. Some decisions are small and seemingly of little consequence while others can be of everlasting value and importance.
When we are faced with making momentous decisions, a process of evaluation must take place intellectually, emotionally, and willfully. This process may be immediate or gradual, but it never fails to be essential regarding determined change in personal direction.
The ever-changing and challenging society in which we find ourselves brings with it many and even daily decisions. One of the most important and meaningful words for consideration in our decision making is NEVERTHELESS.
We are often swamped with situations and decisions which we have no direct ability to change. It is at these times that we must honestly consider our limitation of action.
We have a choice of ignoring the challenge, or we can determine by “nevertheless” that we will make the right decision and determinedly carry out the proper action.
Think about the nationwide demonstrations on some of our most prestigious university campuses against Israel’s right to defend itself against unthinkable atrocities against it.
We have a decision to make concerning this tragic situation. We can wrongly place all college students into one category as poorly informed troublemakers just wanting to make noise and disrupt the educational process while failing to consider that they represent a very small number of university students.
We can easily become bitter and depressed by the daily reminders by most media outlets, or we can consider a very important word and reaction. That meaningful word is “nevertheless,” a word that promotes a point of beginning with self-purpose and action.
Our inner motivator and activator of “nevertheless” allows us to possess a determination to choose the right position and continue on with faith and hope in spite of outside influences or the constant barrage of bad news surrounding us.
We of the Christian faith have a beautiful and very meaningful biblical example to consider. In His humanity, Jesus, in prayer just before His capture and eventual predestined death on a cross, asked God to allow this event to pass from Him.
After a time of anguish of mind and emotion, He used the most powerful and still available word “nevertheless” as a declaration of complete personal acceptance.
The 21st century finds us daily challenged by previously unthought of thoughts and actions about which we have little or no ability to change. But there is hope derived from the all-encompassing word of committed allegiance, dedication, and trust in God – NEVERTHELESS. That word is forever, and through self-determination we should be committed to our foundation of patriotism, freedom of peaceful speech, and “In God We Trust.”
Regardless of all efforts to change us, we must NEVERTHELESS persevere as our heritage has wonderfully and faithfully portrayed. May God, in and through it all, NEVERTHELESS continue to bless America, our beloved and cherished home.
